Hannover 96, Salt Lake City draw up cooperation pact
HANOVER, Germany (AP) - Hannover 96 and Real Salt Lake City have agreed to a cooperation pact as part of Clint Mathis' return to Major League Soccer, the Bundesliga club announced Thursday. Hannover general manager Ilja Kaenzig said his club would plan a United States trip with two test matches sometime before 2008, while the MLS expansion club would send youth team coaches to the German club for training.
Mathis, a member of the United States national team, is returning to Major League Soccer after a year with Hannover. The former MetroStars midfielder arrived in Germany in January and created a stir by scoring four goals in his first five games. But he didn't score again before the season's end. This season, he has one goal in just four appearances and appeared unlikely to see much more game time.
