Anyway, here's a thought for you. Maybe Schalke is doing so well at the moment because they were sensible enought so sign some Brasilian players instead of Americans??! At least those guys seem to have a passion for the game.

ouch.. that hurt!, american players don't have a passion for the game? i really don't know what happened w/clint- you/der rote/ squig ect. ect. know better than i- but i'll match american players passion for soccer against players from any country. skill is a different story which we could debate (while i think we have really come a long way- i would agree if you said brazilian players are overall more skilled than american players)- 8)

You are correct - The Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson likes Americans BECAUSE they have passion for the game - and Yanks just don't like losing. Thats what this Lienen character doesn't understand about Clint - what a total fool (or jerk) that guy Lienen must be.

And you'd be right. American players have as much passion for the game as any other nationals. The whole Clint Mathis situation did not arise for a lack of passion but rather due to Clints character. At least that is my take on it.

There are around 28 guys on our roster. 26 of those are supportive of the coach, even those who are not playing. 2 are not. That to me speaks a pretty clear language.

26 guys understood that all you have to do in order to play is impress the coach in training. Names don't matter. Talent doesn't matter. Only what you make of it counts. The coach wants motivated guys on the field who give everything for the victory. If you do that, you're on his good side.

If you behave like a spoiled "superstar-wannabe" and demand your spot in the line-up without working for it, you're not. It's as simple as that.

Even after Clint made his derogatory gestures towards the coach, he was given a spot in the starting line-up for the next match to show what he can do. He failed miserably. He lacked the will and the passion to prove himself.

I'm sorry to say that because I once loved to see Clint play, but the club is 100% right to let him go. There are plenty of players who love to play for our club and give it their all. We don't need someone who runs his mouth and doesn't back it up.

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure that Mathis will play great in his first few matches for his new club. That will be his idea of sticking it to us. He will think that this proves that the club and the coach have done him wrong. In fact it will prove them right.

der rote- hey- i'm not the person to make apologies for mathis- as i said before- i really don't know a lot about his situation and it sounds like you have have a lot more insight into it than i.

my comment to preal was just in general american players are passionate about soccer & have a strong work ethic. (realize possible p-real may have been reacting some to keith).

anyways- i wish both mathis & hanover good luck for the new year.
hopefully hanover will come out of the new year with full points against bayer l. - why not dream about a top 4 finish?

To accomplish great things - teams need great players. Riener doesnt get this fact, a fact which RR DID understand and continues to demonstrate at Schalke. Riener shows weakness in that he clearly cant handle a difficult player - just like a school-teacher who cant handle a more accomplished student.

To be a great player, you need to do great things.

Not sure who you are referring to, Clint.

Uh, Clith.

Keith.

Oh, and since this is the Rangnick-thread: Rangnick has way better players at his disposal at Schalke. That is a fact. So ranking above Hannover in the table does not necessarily prove him to be a better coach. But you knew that.

Wiseguy huh?

RR has great players - thats the point - but he hasnt alienated them by being petulant; he is a better coach.

Yes it is pal.

I'll go straight to the ignoring part, thank you very much.

ok- rock paper scissors - winner is the better coach....

i figured my idea of a hot oil wrestling match between Rangnick & Lienen would be too difficult to set up so i won't suggest that,

The fact is Hannover did much worse under Rangnick than now.
Watch Schalke and you'll see that Rangnick learned from his time in Hannover, he plays much defensivley now then back then with 96.

As I have previously posted Hannover would have turned around had RR stayed, all teams go through cycles. The new coach is just at the right place at the right time. IMHO the team is doing well in spite of - not because of - the new coach!.

Yeah, real heroes, you and Clint both. Always speaking the truth, no matter what the consequences are. A true inspiration to all of us.
