Well, this is it. Ralf Rangnick, the coach who has led us back to the Bundesliga after 13 years in the minor leagues, has been fired.

This comes a a result of our club only winning one of the last 9 matches. We are now ranked 15th, only one point ahead of the relegation ranks.

So far, no replacement has been appointed.

Gerets said today he's not coming to Hanover. Surprise, surprise.

I live in San Francisco an I´m trying to keep up to the further developement of my favorite soccer-team HANNOVER 96. And I´m really not glad, that the contract to RR has been canceled.

But if there´s one thing, that makes me look hopefully to the future:

ERIC GERETS IS STAYING WHERE HE IS RIGHT NOW.

It looks like RR was fired too soon, Hannover's position was an aberration. This fellow Lienen has just reaped the rewards that SHOULD have been due to RR. We had the same issue with the Columus Crew which lost the first 5 games of the season. Everyone expected the coach to be fired - he wasnt, and the club went on a recordbreaking winning streak and won the league!

Sure. Lienen contributed absolutely nothing to our success. Nevermind that our defense was a mess when Rangnick left and is the second best in the league right now. And we're scoring almost as much as back then. But you really don't care much for facts, as long as you can bash the guy who you think screwed your precious Clint Mathis, do you?

Mathis screwed himself, first and foremost. That's all there is to it.

Because your disdain for Mathis' situation here is the basis for all your arguing. Mathis doesn't make the team, therefore our club and or coach are trash. Yet we are successful at the moment, therefore the coach cannot be responsible for that success. Because he's trash. So it must be that he is just reaping the rewards of the previous coach. And the Columbus comment just serves to support that.

I am not even going to start arguing how the Columbus situation reminds me of coach Lienen and Hannover 96 this season.

Ralf Rangnick is now the coach of Shalke - which apparently isnt falling apart. It's my educated guess that Hannover parted compant with RR too hastily and the club was about to "turn the corner" anyway. Plus ca change.

As much as I admire Ralf Rangnick (I actually have a picture of him, my boyfriend and me on my desktop) I don't really know what this comment is about.

He is a great coach, he is in charge of a great team and he deserves the success. But so do we. And so does Ewald L I E N E N.

I think I tried to explain the situation before. Maybe you should check out the other thread, I think it was the Mathis one.

Anyway, here's a thought for you. Maybe Schalke is doing so well at the moment because they were sensible enought so sign some Brasilian players instead of Americans??! At least those guys seem to have a passion for the game. Perhaps we should have done the same last winter. At least we wouldn't have discuss Clint Mathis over and over and over again. He will be leaving, I wish him the best of luck. What more can I do?

Ralf Rangnick is doing a FANTASTIC job at Schalke and it is Shalke who are the major challenger to Bayern Munchen for the Championship. No other coach in Bundesliga history has had the number of wins he has as a new coach - 9 wins so far this season. It just makes you wonder what the Hannover Board of Directors was smoking earlier this season
