In the last few games the new Head Coach has gone back to using the same defenders that played when Mertesacker was out injured last season. Perhaps this is his way of repairing the damage done to the defence by Peter Neururer. Sometimes you have to take a step backwards before you can start going forwards again.
Did '96 get any money from Bremen for Mertesacker? If so, what happened to it?
Perhaps Fahrenhorst is the type of player that needs time to settle down with his new club before he can start playing his best football. It might be a good idea to give him a break and some time to re-build his confidence. Was he supposed to be a straight replacement for Mertesacker? The Danish lad Toast looked quite solid when he played last year but I don't think he has played yet this season. The signs are that the defence is getting better judging by the most recent results. Who knows, a run of good results and we could be talking about the UAFA cup again. If Wolfsburg can beat Bayern München than anything is possible!
I just hope that Robert Enke doesn't look too closely at Jens Lehman while they are together with the German National Squad this week. Lehman is a good goalkeeper and is playing well, but he does some crazy things at times. He gets away with it at Arsenal because he has top quality defenders playing in front of him. Enke does not have that luxury.
Thinking about it, I could be totally wrong about Fahrenhorst. Perhaps he is just a rubbish player
